Project Type: Cultural Complex
West Fort Worth, an area known for a high number of vacant housing units, is in resurgence. As part of this revival, the proposed building occupies a site on the boundary between two emerging neighborhoods – the cultural center, defined by iconic objects situated within larger fields of lawn and parking, and a dense mixed-use neighborhood that seeks to reinvigorate street life through carving out voids in the city fabric. The building acknowledges its placement at the intersection of these two zones as well as infrastructure in the form of a major street and proposed streetcar route that will mobilize visitors from the high speed rail station in downtown. Acting as a visitor’s center, the building defines and fosters an identity for the area through an interplay of the forces at this critical juncture and will act to shape West Fort Worth’s character and role in the larger Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. Through tapping into the route of a streetcar system that connects the rail and the different zones of downtown Fort Worth, the building creates a transitive relationship that reveals itself as one of the factors that will redefine Fort Worth as a patchwork of unique and strongly identifiable neighborhoods.
